Wilmington, a port in northern Delaware, is the largest city in the state.

According to a 2004 estimate, Wilmington had a total population of 71,988.

It is the county seat of New Castle County.

It was named by Thomas Penn for his friend Spencer Compton, Earl of Wilmington.
