Curtis has extensive experience handling a wide range of litigation and arbitration matters. He frequently represents clients in state, federal, bankruptcy and appellate court in complex commercial, real estate, securities, intellectual property and bankruptcy disputes. He also advocates on behalf of companies before the California Department of Labor Standards Enforcement.

Additionally, Curtis represents companies and startups in incorporation and commercial transactions, including commercial leases, nondisclosure agreements, intellectual property licenses, ICANN disputes and creative commons licenses. He also represents both small businesses and large publicly traded companies in commercial transactions and intellectual property assessment and management, including end-user license agreements and licensing, marketing, and nondisclosure and employment agreements.

Curtis has represented individuals and corporations in real estate and land use disputes in San Francisco for approximately 10 years. He counsels landlords in all aspects of property management, including unlawful detainer actions. Curtis also handles real estate transactions, including commercial leases, TIC agreements and other rental and sale agreements. He has litigated boundary disputes; tree ordinance disputes; landlord-tenant disputes, including without limitation wrongful eviction cases; and easements. Additionally, Curtis has negotiated complex land use contracts for individuals and corporations in front of the Planning Department, Board of Permit Appeals and Board of Appeals.

Among the matters he’s handled, Curtis has:

  • Obtained a seven figure settlement for cleantech clients in a complex international litigation dispute.
  • Represented an Internet-enabled video camera company in patent defense, trademark registration, trademark prosecution and ICANN disputes.
  • Represented an underwater robotics company in bankruptcy litigation.

Before Fox Rothschild

Prior to launching his legal career, Curtis worked as a licensing manager for Broadway Video Entertainment where he managed licenses in commercial properties and music licenses. He also worked as a post-production manager for Miramax Films, working directly for Bob and Harvey Weinstein.

Beyond Fox Rothschild

Curtis currently serves as a legal mentor for Web Forward, Mozilla’s Open Innovation program.

Additionally, Curtis has been appointed Judge Pro Tempore of the San Francisco Superior Court.
