Frequently Asked Questions

Will the Firm reimburse travel expenses for out-of-town students?

Yes. If you are invited to a callback interview after your on campus interview we will reimburse you for reasonable travel expenses per the NALP guidelines. All other travel expenses would need to be approved by the Recruitment Department.

If you do not visit my school on campus, how can I apply for a summer associate position?

If your law school is not listed on our OCI schedule and you are interested in applying for a summer associate position in one of our offices, please apply directly to our careers website. Please include your resume, cover letter, and law school transcript.

How long is the summer program?

While the program length is evaluated each year, the 2011 summer program will run nine weeks. Our program typically starts the end of May and concludes the end of July.

Are summer associates assigned to a specific practice area?

No, and there is not a formal rotation between practice areas. We believe that it is important that you have exposure to all practice areas. You will work on a variety of assignments in the different practice areas that are represented in your office throughout the summer.

How does the assignment system work?

Our attorneys enter the assignments into an online database where it is reviewed and assigned directly to you.

How often do summer associates receive feedback and evaluations?

Feedback is provided on an assignment-by-assignment basis. Additionally, you will be assigned a supervising attorney who will review your written work product and meet with you on a weekly basis to discuss your submitted assignments.

Our evaluation process includes a mid-summer and end-of-summer review. Each attorney who submits an assignment is required to fill out an evaluation when the assignment is completed. The evaluation form requests feedback on the quality of your writing skills, research, analytical ability, communication skills, judgment, ability to take initiative, and overall work product.

In addition, we encourage you to provide us with a detailed critique of all aspects of the Summer Associate Program.

Are there pro bono opportunities for summer associates?

Fox Rothschild has a long history of giving back to the community by providing free legal services to those in need. We encourage all of our attorneys to make pro bono a priority. This participation benefits the greater community, and gives our associates meaningful responsibility and early client contact. You will have the opportunity to participate in many of the firm’s pro bono programs and assignments.
