The Obama administration has announced the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), which would require employer shared responsibility payments, will not apply in 2014.
“The announcement is good news for all large employers, but particularly employers in industries where there are a significant number of part-time workers or employees whose hours fluctuate, such as retail and restaurant, because the lack of guidance on reporting and payment has delayed their benefits decisions,” Jeremy Pelphrey said. Pelphrey also noted that the delay will give employers more time to plan for implementation of the rules.
