A Designer-Builder’s Guide to Government Lawsuits (and How to Avoid Them)
Reggie Jones and Nicholas Solosky moderated a panel on “A Designer-Builder’s Guide to Government Lawsuits (and How to Avoid Them)” presented by the Design Build Institute of America (DBIA) and Society of Military Engineers (SAME).
In the last four years, the U.S. has recovered more money from private contractors based on alleged fraud against the government than it had in the previous 150. The DOJ used to come knocking only for blatant acts of fraud. But today, even minor infractions can land contractors in hot water. Given the demand for design-build services on federal projects, design-builders need to avoid liability to the government through comprehensive business ethics and compliance programs. Panelists included Andrew Steinberg (Trial Attorney, Civil Frauds Division, U.S. Department of Justice) and Tanya Matthews (President, TMG Construction).
