1:30 to 2:30 p.m. - Ensuring the Domicile and Residence of Choice
For those planning for the migration of a client to Florida, we'll explore the various issues surrounding domicile and residence. We'll highlight those concepts pertaining to state law and state income, estate and inheritance tax purposes, and will discuss discrepancies between northern states and Florida that can potentially lead to challenging audits and litigation.

2:30 to 3:30 p.m. – Foreign Investment in U.S. Real Property
There is a growing interest by non-U.S. companies and individuals in purchasing real property in the United States, particularly in Florida. This session will primarily cover the important income tax aspects involved in foreign investment in U.S. real property interests. A portion of the discussion will address pertinent transfer tax rules to nonresidents owning real property in the United States.

3:45 to 4:45 p.m. – Gifting Strategies in Light of the $5 Million Gift Tax Exemption
As the clock winds down on the opportunities to make large donative transfers under the Tax Relief Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization and Job Creation Act of 2010, we'll explore gifting strategies to seize the available window open
until the end of 2012 on the $5 million exemption from
gift and estate tax.

4:45 to 5:45 p.m. – Deferred Compensation Planning for Owners of Closely Held Businesses and Highly Compensated Individuals
This segment will address the benefits of using deferred compensation arrangements to compensate as well as incentivize key employees and senior management. Included in the discussion will be an overview of the various forms of deferred compensation, including restricted stock, nonqualified and qualified stock options, and deferred compensation arrangements subject to Section 409A. A second segment of the program will cover compensation planning for the U.S. executive working overseas or the foreign executive working in the United States.
