Shannon R. Pierce presented “Special Ed Law, Gender and Sexuality Matters” at Lehigh University's 44th Special Education Law Conference.

This session focused on the school district legal obligations to students and families of diverse genders and sexualities. For example, what are the unique challenges that LGBTQ students with disabilities face in school? How do our federal and state special education laws help and hinder school districts in meeting those needs? Participants learned how courts, advocates, schools and families have responded to these challenging questions, thereby gaining practical tools for creating safe, supportive school communities for all students.
