Biography

A former Supervisor of the Real Estate Tax Unit in the Cook County State's Attorney’s Office, Mary advises real estate companies, developers, banks, investors and other business clients on a variety of real estate tax matters. She regularly works with clients to reduce real estate tax liabilities and resolve disputes with taxing authorities and other entities. She has significant experience representing clients before local assessors and in hearings before local boards of review, the Property Tax Appeal Board of Illinois, Illinois Department of Revenue and the circuit courts on exemptions, sales in error, tax sales specific objections and related tax issues.

During her career, Mary has represented and worked closely with the Cook County Assessor, Clerk and Treasurer in resolving real estate tax issues and proposing and implementing related legislation for the state of Illinois.

Before Fox Rothschild

Prior to joining Fox Rothschild, Mary was special counsel at a full-service law firm. Before entering private practice, she was an Assistant State's Attorney in both the Criminal and Civil Divisions, ending her tenure at the Cook County State's Attorney's Office as the Supervisor of the Real Estate Tax Unit. She has also served as a Commissioner on the Illinois Court of Claims.

Beyond Fox Rothschild

Mary has served as a member of the electoral board and has taught criminal law and criminal procedure as an adjunct professor at Oakton Community College. She also sits on the IIT Chicago-Kent Alumni Board.

Active in the community, Mary is a volunteer for Lurie’s Children’s Memorial Hospital KIDDS for Kids Charity Group.
