Gary Dunkel was quoted in the Asbury Park Press article, “Capriati, North Korea, The Plaza have Who in Common?” Full text can be found in the November 18, 2014, issue, but a synopsis is below.
David Sugarman had opened a sports agency, but wasn’t signing big-name players, except for Jennifer Capriati. Capriati had signed a deal with Sugarman, but his main goal was to help her get back to the U.S. Open.
Unfortunately, neither worked out and Sugarman filed for bankruptcy. Capriati was his biggest creditor, and he agreed to pay her back over time, according to bankruptcy documents.
Sugarman’s motion to dismiss the case was later granted. Capriati’s attorney, Gary Dunkel, states, “I would say she would have been better off if she had not met him.”
