Darrell D. Miller and Jody Simon Named to the Variety 2016 Dealmakers Impact Report

December 23, 2016 – Press Releases

Fox Rothschild LLP congratulates Darrell D. Miller and Jody Simon on being named to the Variety Dealmakers Impact Report, a prestigious list of the entertainment industry’s most influential players.

The coveted list spotlights the top professionals behind Hollywood’s biggest deals in 2016. As Variety describes it, the Dealmakers Impact Report “fetes the powerbrokers and kingmakers of the entertainment industry” by focusing on those who are “driving the most significant deals in the business.”

Darrell D. Miller, who is the Beverly Hills Bar Association’s 2016 Entertainment Law of the Year, was named to Variety’s list for the fourth consecutive year, and he is the chair of Fox’s nationwide Entertainment Department and managing partner of the firm’s Los Angeles office. He was recognized by Variety for negotiating a remarkable string of deals in the past year for his growing list of television and film stars and executives, including:

  • Courtney B. Vance’s deal to play Johnnie Cochran in “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story,” a role that earned Vance a 2016 Emmy®
  • Reggie Hudlin’s contract to produce the Academy Awards telecast
  • Academy Award®-nominated actress Angela Bassett directorial debut

Miller also worked with Cheo Hodari Coker to become the first African-American writer/executive producer in a Marvel Comics property, as showrunner for the “Luke Cage” series on Netflix, among other high-profile deals. Together with his bicoastal team of entertainment attorneys, Miller has built a full-service entertainment law practice representing celebrities, top executives and major corporate clients. He has personally transformed the careers of many entertainers and remains a trusted adviser to stars who credit him as a central factor in their enduring success, including rapper/actor Chris “Ludacris” Bridges and producer and best-selling author TD Jakes, among others.

Jody Simon is chair of the firm’s Production Practice. For Simon, it’s all about content. Whether his clients are creating, producing, acquiring or distributing content, Simon guides and protects them in a media business facing rapid transformation.

In the past year alone, Simon has closed several groundbreaking deals that are changing the very structure of the entertainment industry and creating new models for how deals are done. From shepherding the launch of a new SVOD channel to advising a multichannel network that is leading the evolution of multiplatform hubs, he has remained at the forefront of the digital frontier he helped pioneer.

Some of Simon’s well-known clients include Crunchyroll, Michael Levitt Productions, The Mighty Networks, Six Point Harness, 310 Entertainment, Titmouse Animation, Man of Action (creators of Ben 10), leading comic book writer Mark Waid, Clay Newbill, Sara Rea and Liquid Theory.
