Data Breach Notification Laws, There’s an App for That

January 6, 2014 – In The News

Scott L. Vernick was quoted in the Hacksurfer article, "Data Breach Notification Laws, There’s an App for That." Full text can be found in the January 6, 2014, issue, but a synopsis is noted below.

With 46 states currently having varying laws regarding how organizations should deal with a data breach, but no nationwide standard, there is little clarity in the U.S. regarding breaches.

To help sort through the confusion, Scott L. Vernick, a partner at Fox Rothschild and noted privacy attorney, spearheaded the creation of Data Breach 411, an iPhone app that helps companies affected by a breach navigate the varying laws.

“Data breaches can severely impact a company’s reputation and have debilitating consequences to businesses big and small,” Vernick said. “Our app is a ‘one stop shop’ for in-house counsel and privacy officers to instantly access the relevant state-specific details on what they need to do, who they need to notify, when and how.”

The app is available for free in the iTunes Store. To download it, click here.
