The October 1 merger between Fox Rothschild LLP and David & Goodman, P.C. gives Fox Rothschild its 20th office and provides David & Goodman lawyers with the benefits of a national firm.

David & Goodman founder and now Dallas office managing partner, Clinton David explains that "I've received more overtures from search firms and other firms wanting to be in Dallas than I can recall. The problem I always experience in looking at other firms is making sure there was a cultural fit.”

Although Fox has over 600 lawyers it has the “small firm culture,” that David was looking for."They have midmarket clients. Their rates are consistent with our rates, so it was just in my mind once I got to know them it was a no-brainer," he noted.

Mark Silow, Fox Rothschild's firmwide managing partner, said his firm has been looking to enter Texas for a few years and was simply looking for the best available talent and match for the firm. Fox happened to find that in Dallas when a mutual client introduced David & Goodman.

The David & Goodman attorneys bring litigation, corporate, real estate, employment and family law experience to the new Dallas office.

While the new attorneys don't have a particular focus on the energy market, the Texas location will help bolster its energy and natural resources practice started earlier this year through the hire of five energy attorneys in Denver.

Silow explains that "Energy wasn't driving this deal, but energy was certainly an important component of our thinking." The David & Goodman lawyers expect energy business to materialize now that they have capabilities across a full-service firm.

"I wanted to build an elite, small-size firm, and quite honestly this is an opportunity to build on a much bigger platform," David said. "I got over seeing my name on the door a long time ago."
