David S. Sokolow of Fox Rothschild to Speak at PBI Annual Health Law Institute

David S. Sokolow, co-chair of the Health Law Practice at Fox Rothschild LLP and a partner in its Philadelphia and Princeton offices, will speak at the Pennsylvania Bar Institute’s (PBI) 18th Annual Health Law Institute on March 13 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

Sokolow’s first presentation, “The Basics of Medicare/Medicaid Fraud & Abuse,” will review leading fraud and abuse laws, such as the Anti-Kickback Statute, the Stark Law and the False Claims Act, to give a better understanding of the enforcement efforts designed to protect the public funds that support Medicare and Medicaid. His second presentation, “Fraud & Abuse Compliance,” will focus on the importance of health care compliance programs and discuss how to establish, implement and evaluate them for effectiveness.

Sokolow focuses his practice in the areas of health and corporate law. He has counseled a range of clients, including physicians and medical group practices, hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, medical equipment suppliers and diagnostic imaging facilities. He also has experience in regulatory and transactional areas concerning fraud and abuse, internal investigations, hospital-physician relations and Medicare and Medicaid. Sokolow has appeared before Medicare’s Provider Reimbursement Review Board as well as other administrative agencies.

Active in the legal community, Sokolow is a member of the American Bar Association’s Health Law Section, the American Health Lawyers Association, the Health Care Compliance Association and the Healthcare Financial Management Association. In addition, he has written extensively for local and national publications, planned professional education courses and made numerous presentations on health care issues throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

An acknowledged health law authority, Sokolow was a former director of the Pennsylvania Society of Healthcare Attorneys and served on its Physician Self-Referral, Physician Hospital Organization and Integrated Delivery System Task Forces.

Sokolow earned his J.D. from Temple University, participated in Master-level studies at the University of Pennsylvania and received his B.A. from Carnegie Mellon University.
