If you or your boss is thinking of selling the practice, opportunities will persist a while longer, attorneys say. But the trend may not be equally distributed at all times in every area.

The acquisition pace in western Pennsylvania has slowed down because the two major networks in the area “feel they have locked in enough physicians,” according to William Maruca. He notes however, based on national trends that could turn around “overnight.”

In general, the capital needs of a modern practice, particularly regarding EMR (electronic medical records), are continuing to lead many physicians to jump on the bandwagon of hospital affiliation/employment,” Maruca says.
