Federal Investigators To Supervise Stent Doctors

Due to allegations that Dr. Mark G. Midei placed heart stents in patients who didn’t need them, federal investigators are imposing greater government oversight of St. Joseph Medical Center with a “corporate integrity agreement,” requiring the hospital to conduct annual, random audits of its cardiac care practice to verify that the procedures performed there are in fact necessary.

“They’re subject to significantly higher scrutiny by the federal government,” which can lead others to be wary of working with them, said Todd A Rodriguez. “It’s just a red flag in general, that the hospital has…had issues, it’s had compliance issue, that’s what it tells you.”
