Five New Partners Join Fox Rothschild’s Minneapolis Office in Litigation and Financial ServicesAugust 24, 2016 – Press Releases
In moves that grow its litigation and financial services practices in the Minneapolis office, Fox Rothschild LLP announced that five seasoned attorneys have joined the firm as partners.
John C. Ekman and Eric J. Nystrom joined the firm’s litigation group and Michael T. Bates, Michael A. Cavallaro and Thomas E. Hoffman joined the firm’s financial services group.

Ekman is known for handling large, complex commercial and banking cases in state and federal courts across the country. His extensive trial experience enables him to devise strategies for litigation involving dozens of witnesses and thousands of documents, in which hundreds of millions of dollars are at stake. Ekman received his J.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, his M.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and his B.A. from Oberlin College.
Nystrom is an experienced trial lawyer who has secured eight- and nine-figure verdicts and settlements in complex commercial litigation. He has tried cases to verdict in state and federal courts and administrative forums in 10 states. He has also litigated international disputes before the American Arbitration Association’s Centre for International Dispute Resolution. Nystrom received his J.D. from the University of Iowa College of Law and his B.A. from Iowa State University.
Bates advises clients in the consumer financial services sector on national and regional regulatory and legal compliance issues related to bankruptcy, collections, vendor management, foreclosure and default servicing. His experience includes serving for more than 21 years as a Senior Vice President and Senior Company Counsel for Wells Fargo & Company where he supported the company’s consumer collection groups and managed a team of attorneys that supported all consumer bankruptcy operations. Bates received a J.D. at Hamline University School of Law and a B.S. from Iowa State University.
Cavallaro advises financial institutions, mortgage companies, loan servicers and collections agencies on national and regional regulatory and legal compliance issues related to consumer and commercial bankruptcy, collections, vendor management, foreclosure, loss mitigation, and default servicing. Prior to joining the firm, Cavallaro was a Senior Corporate Counsel at U.S. Bank where he supported the bank’s consumer collection and bankruptcy groups. Cavallaro received a J.D. at Hamline University School of Law and a B.A. in business management at Gustavus Adolphus College.
Hoffman works with financial institutions, Trust Companies and other creditors in commercial restructuring and bankruptcy matters. He also advises clients in the financial sector on consumer regulatory and legal compliance issues. He was a managing counsel at Wells Fargo, where he spent over 25 years in its Law Department. Hoffman has a J.D. From William Mitchell College of Law and a B.A. from the University of Minnesota.
Fox entered the Minneapolis market in January of this year through a merger with Oppenheimer Wolff & Donnelly.
