Practices should avoid accusing an employee of a HIPAA violation until they’ve followed several steps to help protect the practice, attorneys say.

Among the precautions to be taken is to bring a witness to the interviews, according to William Maruca. The witness can then testify about what was said in the meeting in the event that the employee accuses you of saying something you didn't or later denies something they said.
