Fox’s New Jersey Attorneys Provide Pro Bono Services to Lyons VA Clinic

November 6, 2014 – Press Releases

A team of Fox Rothschild LLP attorneys, led by Partner Alain Leibman, operate a free legal clinic at the largest Veterans Administration hospital in New Jersey, benefitting veterans and their families in a first of its kind program in the country.

“Some three years ago we proposed to the VA that we be permitted to come on site to meet with, and render legal assistance to, current and former service members and their families. After extended discussions with the VA, which had not previously approved such a program anywhere in the country, we began holding regular legal clinics at the VA facility in Lyons, New Jersey. Many of my colleagues at Fox Rothschild’s New Jersey offices immediately signed up to participate in offering legal services to the many veterans at need,” said Leibman. “Through this program we are able to truly help members of our community, who otherwise would not be able to afford a lawyer. As the program continues to grow, I hope that even more attorneys will become involved.”

Every two months, a group of Fox lawyers attends the clinic, a three-hour long session open to all veterans. So far, the team has met with more than 225 veterans and opened more than 100 files for follow-up legal work. Some of the matters that Fox has handled include landlord-tenant cases, child support and custody hearings, divorce litigation, and Social Security benefits cases. Additionally, the team has helped to prepare numerous wills, including for dying veterans concerned that their last wishes would otherwise not have been preserved and honored.

Fox Rothschild has a long history of giving back to the community by providing free legal services to those in need. The broad-based pro bono program includes legal services at no cost for individuals who need assistance as well as services to various religious organizations, community groups, nonprofit associations, social welfare and human resources organizations.
