Strong leadership abilities and a commitment to the community has earned Alka Bahal, Corporate Immigration co-chair in the Roseland office of Fox Rothschild LLP, the “Forty Under 40 Award” from the NJBIZ.
The “Forty Under 40 Award” honors 40 outstanding New Jersey men and women under the age of 40 who have been making headlines in their field and share a commitment to business growth, professional excellence and the community.
The winners were chosen by an independent panel of judges, and Bahal, a resident of West New York, New Jersey, is among those to be honored at this year’s awards ceremony on Sept. 20, 2010, at the Palace at Somerset Park in Somerset, NJ. Winners will also be highlighted in a special supplement to NJBIZ on Sept. 27, 2010.
Bahal has extensive experience in corporate immigration and employer compliance issues, including IRCA, I-9s, Social Security mismatch issues visas and permanent residence applications (i.e. green cards), representing immigration clients across the United States and at Consulates worldwide.
In the course of her career focused on corporate immigration law, Bahal has represented a wide variety of clients, from Fortune 500 clients to small, privately held corporations to healthcare and non-profit organizations across the country. She has developed a niche in representing fashion houses of all sizes around the world and has become well known for her attention and creative solutions to employers' hiring needs. Other industries Bahal has assisted include hospitality, telecommunications, media and entertainment and non-profit children's services.
Also a member of the firm's Labor & Employment Practice Group, Bahal has assisted with a variety of management-side negotiations with unions as related to immigration matters, and has provided guidance and training on I-9 and Social Security mismatches to employers of all sizes. She has successfully filed more than 7,000 petitions relating to the employment of non-immigrants and the acquisition of permanent residence, evidencing her commitment to strategic immigration planning, responsiveness to the needs of business clientele, and being mindful of the enormous importance of timely and cost-effective legal representation.
A noted speaker and author on corporate immigration topics, Bahal regularly hosts seminars on immigration compliance and strategic planning and has authored numerous published articles on IRCA and I-9 matters, as well as visa-related topics.
Active in her community, Bahal led the charge for the Essex County Bar Association’s “Backpack and School Supply Drive” for underprivileged children in New Jersey by heading the team that supplied more backpacks and school supplies than any other single entity in the state. Bahal also gives of her time to the Hindu Temple of WI, actively participating in a multitude of fundraising and charitable work. In addition, she serves as a mentor in Fox Rothschild’s mentoring program. Bahal also holds memberships in the American Immigration Lawyer's Association, the New York and New Jersey Chapters; New Jersey State Bar Association; American Bar Association; South Asian Bar Association; and chairs the Essex County Bar Association’s Immigration Committee.
Bahal earned her J.D. from Boston University School of Law in 1995 and her B.A. from Marquette University in 1992.
