Fox Rothschild’s Marie Jones Brings World’s Largest Online Gaming Company to New JerseyOctober 7, 2015 – Press Releases
Fox Rothschild LLP Partner Marie Jiacopello Jones, special gaming counsel for Amaya Inc., was instrumental in bringing the Canadian-based online gaming power house to New Jersey.
On September 30, the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement approved Amaya to offer its PokerStars and Full Tilt brands throughout the state along with the other offerings by Amaya.
“As states look to legalize online gaming, we are thrilled to be involved in bringing the Amaya PokerStars and Full Tilt brands to New Jersey,” says Jones. “New Jersey is one of only three states that have legalized online gaming so far, and we hope that this decision will boost the Internet gaming industry in New Jersey and be a model for other jurisdictions to follow suit.”
In June 2014, Jones, as special gaming counsel, along with Fox attorneys Harry S. Jackson and Christian J. Fisher, led Amaya in a $4.9 billion all-cash acquisition of the Oldford Group Limited, owner and operator of PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker. The transaction resulted in Amaya becoming the world’s largest publicly traded online gaming company and created a global platform for Amaya’s growth in the U.S. market.
A member of the International Masters of Gaming Law, and the organization’s membership chair, Jones has been named as one of the leading gaming attorneys in the U.S. by Chambers Global. She routinely counsels casino licensees, online gaming companies, private equity firms and gaming equipment manufacturers and suppliers throughout the process of obtaining gaming licenses in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and other domestic and foreign gaming regulatory agencies.
