Fox Rothschild’s Alka Bahal Named Second Vice Chair of the New Jersey State Bar Association Immigration Law Section

Alka Bahal, partner and co-chair of Fox Rothschild’s Corporate Immigration Practice Group, was recently named Second Vice Chair of the New Jersey State Bar Association Immigration Law Section.

The NJSBA’s Immigration Law Section deals with the interaction between U.S. immigration laws and other areas of law including family, criminal, labor and real estate.

Resident in the firm’s Roseland office, Bahal has extensive experience in corporate immigration and employer compliance issues including IRCA, I-9s, Social Security mismatch issues and business visas (Bs, Es, Fs, Hs, Js, Ls, Os, Ps and Qs, plus corresponding permanent residence applications). Over the course of her legal career, she has represented a wide variety of clients including Fortune 500 clients, small, privately held corporations, and health care and nonprofit organizations across the country.

Fluent in Spanish and Hindi, Bahal is permitted to represent immigration clients in every jurisdiction of the United States and all Consulates worldwide. Bahal has developed a niche in representing fashion houses of all sizes around the world and has become well-known for her attention and creative solutions to employers' hiring needs. She has filed more than 7,000 petitions relating to the employment of non-immigrants and the acquisition of permanent residence.

Bahal is a noted speaker and author on corporate immigration topics. She regularly hosts seminars on immigration compliance and strategic planning and has authored numerous published articles on IRCA and I-9 matters as well as visa-related topics.

In 2008, Bahal was appointed chair of the Immigration Law Committee of the Essex County Bar Association. She is also a member of the New Jersey and New York chapters of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and a member of the South Asian Bar Association and the American Bar Association.

Earlier this year, Bahal was named among the "Best 50 Women in Business" by NJBIZ, which also included her among its "Forty Under 40" in 2010. Bahal was also included in a list of "40 Under 40" by the New Jersey Law Journal in 2009.

Bahal earned her J.D. from Boston University School of Law in 1995 and her B.A. from Marquette University in 1992.
