Fox Rothschild Adds IP Team in New YorkJune 1, 2016 – Press Releases
Substantially growing its intellectual property practice in New York, Fox Rothschild LLP is pleased to welcome a team of three outstanding IP attorneys with strong international practices in the pharmaceutical, biotech, chemical, electrical and medical device industries.
Patrick J. Birde, Deborah A. Somerville and Christopher W. Glynn, Ph.D. have joined the firm as partners.
“Adding to our complex intellectual property work has always been an essential part of the plan for growing this office because IP is a natural complement to some of the firm’s other strong practices in New York,” said Michael I. Slapo, Fox’s New York Office managing partner.
“These three extraordinary lawyers are handling sophisticated domestic and international IP work, and we’re thrilled to have them join our New York team,” he concluded.
Birde, Somerville and Glynn were previously with Kenyon & Kenyon, where Birde served as chair of the Life Science/Chemical Patent Prosecution Practice.
Birde has more than 30 years of experience handling strategic portfolio development and resolving patent disputes involving commercially significant patents, including re-examinations, reissues and interferences. He has extensive experience with foreign patent practice, particularly in the European Patent Office, gained from nearly nine years practicing U.S. patent law in Germany. He assists clients with foreign opposition and invalidity proceedings in Europe, Japan and South Korea. Birde’s technical experience with products and processes is broad and ranges from peptide synthesis and non-invasive surgical techniques to photographic chemicals and battery chemistry.
Somerville has more than three decades of experience in the management, protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights. She advises major U.S. and foreign clients in the pharmaceutical, biotech, chemical and medical device industries. Her clients have included emerging and global biotech, medical device and pharmaceutical companies, as well as research institutes, universities and investment firms.
