Fox Rothschild Adds Power to Its Energy and Natural Resources Practice in Denver with Brent D. Chicken

Bolstering the capacity of its newly formed Energy and Natural Resources practice, Fox Rothschild has recruited Brent D. Chicken as a partner to the firm’s Denver office.

“We are seeing steady growth in the energy, oil and gas sectors, especially in Colorado, Pennsylvania and other nearby states, and we are excited to welcome Brent to the team as he brings an extensive breadth of industry experience to the firm,” said Fox Rothschild Firmwide Managing Partner Mark L. Silow.

Chicken is an experienced natural resources attorney with extensive knowledge of the challenges faced by companies operating in the industry as well as of exploration and production, midstream and downstream oil and gas law, He regularly represents his clients in complex commercial litigation disputes, business transactions, administrative law and procedure and title examination matters.

Chicken frequently defends his clients’ interests in the courtroom and in mediation and arbitration related to various mineral matters. He also provides transactional guidance to clients on title and contractual issues during due diligence and the purchase and sale of oil and gas properties involving mixed fee, state, federal and Indian rights. Additionally, he advocates for his clients before various state and federal oil and gas regulatory agencies, including undertaking administrative appeals of negative agency decisions and defending application protests.

Chicken also prepares comprehensive drilling, division order and acquisition mineral title opinions involving fee, state, federal and Indian lands and counsels clients in tackling title curative matters, including negotiating and drafting varied mineral and surface title instruments.

A prolific author and speaker on oil and gas-related topics, Chicken is the past president of the Denver Association of Oil and Gas Title Lawyers and a member of the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation and its Special Institutes Committee. He is also a member of the Denver Association of Petroleum Landmen, the Natural Resources and Energy Section of the Colorado Bar Association, , the Mineral Law Section of the Wyoming State Bar Association and the Natural Resources, Energy, and Environmental Law Section of the Montana State Bar Association.

Chicken serves as a faculty member for both the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation and the National Business Institute and a student mentor for the University of Denver Sturm College of Law. He also serves as an oral argument judge.

He received his J.D. from the University of Denver College of Law in 2004 and his B.S. from Florida State University in 2000.
