Michael Slapo and Mark Silow were quoted in The Legal Intelligencer article "Fox Rothschild Continues Growth, Hires N.Y. Zoning Team," which featured Jesse Masyr, Karen Binder, Jodi Stein, Ethan Goodman and Jerald Johnson. While the full text can be found in the June 20, 2013, issue of The Legal Intelligencer, a synopsis is noted below.

Fox Rothschild LLP has added a five-member zoning and land use team to its New York office. The additions include three lawyers and two urban planners, speaking to the complexity of the approval process for large-scale real estate projects within the city.

The new members include former Wachtel Masyr & Missry name partner Jesse Masyr, partner Karen Binder, associate Jodi Stein and urban planners Ethan Goodman and Jerald Johnson. Goodman will serve as Fox’s new director of New York planning and project management, while Johnson will serve as the firm’s new director of New York zoning and land use.

“If you’re looking to develop a real estate project in New York City, Jesse, Karen and their team are the go-to group you want at your side,” said Michael Slapo. “Their extensive familiarity with New York regulations and approval process – at the city, state and federal levels – is renowned.”

According to Mark Silow, the larger the city, the more bifurcated real estate practices become, with New York being the “ultimate home of specialization.” In New York, “all of the top land use development work gets done by specialists as opposed to real estate lawyers who do a bit of each,” Silow said. “It’s a function that I do believe is unique to New York City.”

Silow said Masyr and his team were “entirely self-sufficient,” and that the group was looking for the “proverbial bigger platform” that offered deeper bench strength.
