Fox Rothschild LLP has landed former Coral Gables, Fla., Mayor Raul J. Valdes-Fauli, who most recently was managing partner of Fowler Rodriguez Valdes-Fauli, to spearhead the opening of a Miami office that will handle corporate and banking matters.

Valdes-Fauli, who was mayor of Coral Gables from 1993 to 2001 and before that served as vice mayor and city commissioner, brings with him to Fox Rothschild more than four decades of experience in corporate and banking matters, not to mention long-time and extensive ties to the south Florida business community, the firm said.

Valdes-Fauli told Law360 on Wednesday that he was excited to build up the firm's broad reach with tax, estate planning, real estate, intellectual property, immigration, litigation and Latin American work. He has already brought with him from Fowler Rodriguez commercial and business litigation associate Thomas Oppenheimer to help with the initial launch of the office.

"Fox Rothschild is a full-service firm, and Miami is fertile territory for that type of firm," he said. "Especially with our Latin American influence and experience here, it’s a great move for them and for me personally."

Fox Rothschild’s firmwide managing partner praised the addition of Valdes-Fauli to the firm to launch the new office, saying it is a move that broadens its reach in Florida and bolsters its services to clients with international interests.

"With his extensive ties to the local business community as well as his international connections, Raul is the prime individual to help us realize our goal of expansion in south Florida,” said Mark L. Silow.
