Fox Rothschild Ranks #2 Nationally, #2 in Philadelphia, In Annual AmLaw Summer Associate Survey

November 13, 2007

Philadelphia, PA – Fox Rothschild LLP was recently ranked #2 nationally out of 169 participating firms in the 2007 American Lawyer Summer Associate Survey. The firm also received a rank of #2 in the city of Philadelphia.

“We take great pride in knowing that our summer associates – many of whom are the future of our firm – have had such an excellent experience at Fox Rothschild,” said Mark Silow, Fox’s Administrative Partner and Chief Operating Officer. “To be recognized by our summer associates proves that our initiatives to ensure that they receive the appropriate balance of interesting work and partner interaction have paid off beautifully.”

The firm was ranked 2nd of 169 participating firms, and received a total score of 4.960 out of a possible 5 points. In Philadelphia, the firm again ranked 2nd, with a total of 4.883 points. Fox was rated highly for offering “real” and “interesting” work, training and guidance, and partner interaction.

In an accompanying article by Paul Jaskunas called “Size Does Matter,” Fox Rothschild’s student interns were quoted as saying that Fox is “a big firm where you can live a small-firm lifestyle.” Another student boasted, “I assisted an attorney in a pro bono matter by writing her brief for the appeal…The judge…told us that he thought our argument in the brief was more compelling than the prosecutor’s, which effectively forced a deal. So basically I won my first case this summer.”

Fox’s 2nd place ranking is a huge move from the firm’s 2006 ranking of 110. In the recent American Lawyer Mid-Level Associate Survey, Fox ranked 4th nationally and 1st in the Philadelphia and Princeton markets – and was rated the “Most Improved” on the list.

The Summer Associate Survey is based on the feedback of more than 7,300 students at 169 firms. Scores are based on nine areas, including the interest level of the work and how much of it was “real,” training and guidance, interaction with partners and associates, how well firm goals were communicated, how accurately the firm portrayed itself in interviews, an overall rating as a place to work, and the student’s desire to accept a job if offered.
