Fox Rothschild Secures $5.5 Million Jury Verdict on Behalf of Community College of Philadelphia

A team of attorneys led by Ronald L. Williams of Fox Rothschild LLP recently obtained a $5.5 million verdict for Community College of Philadelphia in a case involving claims of breach of contract and professional negligence on behalf of an architectural firm.

After a two-and-a-half-week trial in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas, the jury returned a verdict in favor of the College, finding that the architectural firm formerly known as Burt Hill, now doing business as Stantec Corp., was liable for $5.5. million in damages for breaching its contract and committing professional negligence related to the renovation designs of new construction on the College’s main campus at 17th and Spring Garden Streets.

Williams, a partner and co-chair of Fox’s Construction Law Practice Group, was assisted in the victory by Stephanie Nolan Deviney and Danielle Ryan.

Williams serves as the Litigation Department administrative partner in the firm’s Exton and focuses his practice on construction litigation and contracts. He handles construction litigation in multiple states in state and federal courts, as well as in mediation and arbitration. Williams’ experience also includes construction and renovation projects for entertainment complexes, sports stadiums, hotels, malls, senior care facilities, surgical centers, office complexes, historical buildings, and schools and universities, among other facilities.

Deviney, a partner in the firm's Litigation Department and the Construction Law Practice Group, has considerable litigation experience in both state and federal courts throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey. She has successfully obtained numerous jury verdicts for her clients.
