Fox Rothschild’s Cybersecurity Practice Lauded by BTIApril 26, 2017 – In The News
Fox Rothschild LLP is pleased to announce that the firm’s Privacy and Data Security group has been named to the honor roll in Law Firms Best at Cybersecurity, a report from BTI, a respected provider of client-based research for the legal industry.
Fox’s team was nominated by in-house corporate lawyers for driving innovation in the area of cybersecurity and data privacy. According to BTI, cybersecurity is the fastest-growing segment of outside legal expenses for corporations and the biggest issue keeping law firm clients awake at night.
Scott L. Vernick leads Fox’s national network of Privacy and Data Security lawyers and is a longtime Chambers-ranked litigator. The team has extensive experience handling federal and state investigations, enforcement actions and lawsuits arising from data security and privacy issues.
Attorneys in the group work regularly with companies and institutions to develop and implement privacy policies, incident response plans and training programs and to negotiate contracts to safeguard proprietary information and PII, as well as to ensure compliance with state and federal laws.
Fox places a high priority on data security to safeguard the confidentiality of information for both clients and firm employees. The firm was among the first to name a Chief Privacy Officer – Mark G. McCreary – and a HIPAA Privacy & Security Officer – Elizabeth G. Litten. The two positions were created to ensure that every lawyer and client has access to quick and correct answers on data security questions; that data in any client record handled by the firm is protected; and that the firm’s own policies reflect best practices.
With the number of data breaches continuing to rise, and state and federal regulations constantly changing, Fox developed its Data Breach 411 app, available for free download in the iTunes AppStore, to help clients navigate the array of laws. The app provides a comprehensive, centralized, at-your-fingertips resource so that companies can quickly and easily look up the relevant notification laws in the affected states whenever a data breach occurs.
Fox’s Privacy and Data Security group also publishes two blogs that provide timely updates on privacy and data security issues as well as on the legal and practical developments that affect businesses involving the handling and sharing of personal health information.
