Fox Rothschild LLP is pleased to welcome Yue Matthew Ma, Ph.D. as an intellectual property associate and patent attorney in the firm’s Pittsburgh office.
Ma brings 25 years of experience in technology development, patent drafting and prosecution, intellectual property management and technology licensing. He is an author of several books, including, Fundamentals of Patenting and Licensing for Scientists and Engineers, World Scientific, 2008 and 2015. He previously worked as a U.S. patent agent and managed patent prosecution, acquisition and licensing for several clients, including Fortune 500 companies. He also advised the executive management team of an IP boutique firm on its business strategy to enter the Chinese market.

In his practice at Fox, Ma concentrates on patent drafting and prosecution, patentability and freedom-to-operate studies, due diligence and IP licensing. His academic training in electrical and computer engineering, coupled with prior industry experience as a scientist and engineer, affords him in-depth understanding of a wide range of complex technologies behind his clients’ innovations.
As a former director of intellectual property and IP analyst at several technology companies, Ma has broad experience in all phases of a patent’s life cycle, from working with inventors to making strategic decisions on patent filing to monetizing patent assets. These experiences allow him to better understand clients’ needs and value their successes as his top priority.
Ma received his J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law, his Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering from Northeastern University, his M.S. in electrical and computer engineering from State University of New York at Buffalo and his B. Eng in electrical engineering from Tsinghua University.
Ma is only licensed to practice in New Jersey and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
