A team of Fox Rothschild attorneys, led by Adam Busler, recently helped to inject a boost into the Atlantic City economy by facilitating the relocation of a major manufacturer to the area, creating new jobs and aiding in the diversification of the local economy. Over a ten-year period the company will receive an economic incentive of nearly $30 million for the relocation.
Barrette Outdoor Living, a leading vinyl, wood and aluminum manufacturer and distributor of fencing, railing, garden accents and sheds across North America, will move the majority of its manufacturing operations to Galloway Township.
Barrette’s new facilities will be housed in a 415,000 square-foot building that has sat vacant for more than a decade. The move creates nearly 300 immediate new, full-time jobs for South Jersey residents, with the goal of employing more than 450 within the next five years. Barrette’s will also be making a significant capital investment of approximately $22 million.
The relocation stems from new changes to the Economic Opportunity Act (ERA) of 2013, which significantly increased incentives for nongaming activities in Atlantic City and South Jersey. Administered by the New Jersey Economic Development Authority, the ERA recently consolidated five existing economic incentive programs into two -- the Grow New Jersey Assistance Program and the Economic Redevelopment Growth Program -- in an effort reverse South Jersey's downward economic trend. The Grow NJ grant received by this relocation project allowed Barrette’s to create jobs for South Jersey residents that otherwise would have been outsourced to facilities in Georgia and Tennessee.
