Ian Meklinsky , a partner in the Princeton office of Fox Rothschild LLP, presented at the Paid Family Leave Briefing, “Navigating Paid Family Leave: How To Comply With the New Law and Final Regulations,” offered by the New Jersey Business & Industry Association on Nov. 20 in West Orange, NJ.
Meklinsky, Tricia O’Reilly of Connell Foley and Robyn Aversa of Jackson Lewis provided insight to employers on the new, broad paid family leave insurance mandate recently implemented in New Jersey. The briefing addressed key points of the new law including employee paid leave eligibility, employer obligations and keeping workplaces in compliance as well as the new policy entitling employees to six weeks of paid family leave annually for the birth or adoption of a child or to deal with the serious health condition of a family member.
In his practice at Fox Rothschild, Meklinsky represents both union and non-union employers across the country. He advises on union avoidance and organizing campaigns, strikes, collective bargaining and arbitrations. He has worked with human resource professionals and in-house counsel regarding workplace-related rules and counsels employers on matters of personnel policies, discipline or discharge of employees as well as harassment avoidance and training.
Additionally, Meklinsky helps clients ensure compliance with labor and employment relations audits and handles litigation matters involving wrongful discharges, employment discrimination, health matters and unemployment compensation claims. Working with Fox Rothschild’s Tax Department, he advises on the tax implications of employment-related issues and employee benefits.
Meklinsky has authored and co-authored several articles on topics including the New Jersey Paid Family Leave Act, employee rights and employer responsibilities and safe hiring practices. He has contributed to the American Bar Association’s treatise on The Fair Labor Standards Act and West Publishing’s treatise on Advising Small Businesses. He often lectures to employer, professional and civic groups on navigating employee relations.
A Barrister in the New Jersey State Bar Association/Labor & Employment Law Section, the Sidney Reitman Employment Law American Inn of Court, Meklinsky is a member of several other bar associations including the American Bar Association, Pennsylvania and Camden County.
Meklinsky achieved his J.D. from George Washington University School of Law in 1991 and graduated magna cum laude from George Washington University School of Government & Business Administration with a B.A. in 1988.
