Is Psy the Next Justin Bieber or the Next Rebecca Black?September 25, 2012 – In The News
The quick rise of Korean pop star Psy and his viral video "Gangam Style" has many in the music industry wondering if he will be a lasting sensation or a one-hit-wonder.
Psy was recently signed by manager Scooter Braun, who is most famously known for discovering Justin Bieber online and can be credited with finding Carley Rae Jepsen and her infectious summer hit "Call Me Maybe."
Lori Landew commented on Psy’s potential star power, saying that despite his fame, the singer/rapper isn't likely to get rich off his video, which currently receives 15 million hits per day, but rather through touring, record sales and endorsement deals. Landew believes the song's popularity may draw the attention of companies who are looking to include a dose of modern culture into their commercials.
"You're going to see this song popping up everywhere in television and film," says Landew, "anyone that wants to capture this pop culture moment."
