John Gotaskie and Liz Sigety Named Franchise Times Legal EaglesApril 4, 2014 – Press Releases
Fox Rothschild LLP partners John R. Gotaskie, Jr. based in Pittsburgh and Elizabeth D. Sigety based in the Philadelphia and New York region, have been selected as 2014 Franchise Times Legal Eagles.
The list, now in its 11th year, highlights attorneys who have made significant strides in franchise law. Lawyers selected for inclusion in the list were chosen from nominations by their clients and peers.
When interviewed on practice fundamentals, Gotaskie noted that his philosophy is “disclose, disclose disclose. I have yet to meet a regulator who says, ‘you disclosed too much.’” Sigety shared her franchise philosophy as “in short, understand your client’s business and goals. It’s not just interpreting regulation, but adding value to your client’s business.”
In his legal practice, Gotaskie represents individuals, partnerships and companies in complex commercial litigation, creditors’ rights and franchising issues. He also serves as an adviser to several companies and individuals, assisting them in developing a carefully coordinated approach to identify and address legal issues. Gotaskie serves as editor of Fox’s Franchise Law Update Blog and has recorded severalfranchising and social media related podcasts.
Gotaskie received his B.S., cum laude, from Georgetown University in 1994 and his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 1997. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Laurel Highlands Council, Boy Scouts of America. Additionally, he serves on the Parents Advisory Council of the Campus School of Carlow University and is an active Senator in the Georgetown University Alumni Association.
Sigety, chair of the firm’s Franchising, Licensing & Distribution Group and co-chair of the Tech & Venture Finance Group, was named among the most powerful and influential women in Pennsylvania by the National Diversity Council. She focuses her practice on a wide variety of corporate, venture finance, franchising, licensing and distribution matters. For more than 20 years, Sigety has been a trusted adviser to clients, including startup companies and entrepreneurs, handling business and financial transactions such as venture capital and angel financing, mergers and acquisitions, franchising, licensing, securities and private placements.
A Certified Franchise Executive (CFE), Sigety sits on the International Franchise Association’s Women’s Franchise Committee and is the co-founder and co-chair of the Philadelphia Women’s Franchise Network.
Sigety received her B.A., cum laude, from Yale College in 1986 and her J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School in 1989.
