Julia Swain Addresses Prenuptial Agreements for Golden-Age Newlyweds

Addressing the concerns of aging baby boomers, Julia Swain, partner in the Family Law Practice of Fox Rothschild LLP, recently presented the webinar “Prenuptial Agreements for First, Subsequent and Later-In-Life Marriages” through Strafford Publications.

The presentation provided information needed to represent parties throughout different stages of life, including the particular needs of seniors entering into matrimony. Covering such information as the clauses attorneys need to include in prenuptial agreements and the issues that should be addressed in anticipation for future challenges, the presentation provided background on the issues requiring special attention, including beneficiary designations, housing options, long term care and medical care, as well as the basics to drafting prenuptial agreements.

In her practice, Swain represents clients in all aspects of family law including divorce, custody, support, equitable distribution and abuse. She litigates family law cases in the five-county Philadelphia area, including appellate courts and negotiates settlements and prenuptial agreements.

Swain is the immediate past chair of the Philadelphia Family Law Section, during which time she also served as a voting member of the Bar Association’s Board of Governors and Commission on Judicial Selection and Retention. Swain was the 2009 and 2010 recipient of the Pro Bono Roll of Honor award from the First Judicial District of Pennsylvania, recognizing her pro bono work as exemplary. In 2009, she was the is the immediate past chair of the Philadelphia Family Law Section, during which time she also served as a voting member of the Bar Association’s Board of Governors and Commission on Judicial Selection and Retention. Swain was the 2009 and 2010 recipient of the Pro Bono Roll of Honor award from the First Judicial District of Pennsylvania, recognizing her pro bono work as exemplary. In 2009, she was the recipient of the White Hat Award from the Legal Clinic for the Disabled for her outstanding volunteer work.

Swain is a frequent writer and speaker on family law issues and serves as Associate Editor for the Philadelphia Bar Reporter, the monthly newspaper of the Philadelphia Bar Association. Swain has also been appointed to serve on the Family Law Working Group of the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Civil Gideon Task Force.

Swain received her J.D. from Widener University School of Law and her B.A. from University of Delaware.
