Julia Swain and Beth L. Weisser of Fox Rothschild Appointed to Judicial Selection and Retention Commission

February 23, 2009

Julia Swain and Beth L. Weisser, attorneys with Fox Rothschild LLP, have been appointed to the Investigative Division of the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Commission on Judicial Selection and Retention.

The Commission evaluates judicial candidates to help voters make decisions about candidates for judicial office. Evaluations are based on criteria such as legal ability, experience, temperament, administrative ability, integrity and devotion to improvement of the quality of justice.

Swain concentrates her practice in the area of family law, including divorce, custody, support, equitable distribution, and abuse. She negotiates settlements and prenuptial agreements and litigates family law cases in the five-county Philadelphia area, including the appellate courts. An active member of the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Family Law Section, Swain serves as the Section’s treasurer and is a member of the Executive Committee. She will ultimately become Section chair in 2011.

Weisser focuses her practice on all aspects of litigation, including commercial litigation, First Amendment law and white collar criminal defense. Weisser, who was selected as a “Pennsylvania Rising Star” in 2008, is active in both the Pennsylvania and Philadelphia Bar Associations, and serves as a board member for New Directions for Women – a non-profit organization that provides residential and rehabilitative services as an alternative to incarceration for women.
