Julia Swain Discusses Multi-Jurisdictional Child Custody Disputes at PBI Course

Julia Swain, a partner in the Family Law Group at Fox Rothschild LLP, presented on multi-jurisdictional child custody issues and understanding scope of the governing law at a Pennsylvania Bar Institute (PBI) program held on Dec. 2.

Swain offered strategies on how to best serve clients faced with cross-border child custody disputes. She addressed laws such as the Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction and Enforcement Act and the Parental Kidnapping Prevention Act as well as discussed special jurisdiction issues such as initial child custody, modification, enforcement, jurisdiction orders and determining the proper venue in which to raise the matter.

Swain litigates family law cases in the five-county Philadelphia area, including appellate courts. She also negotiates settlements and prenuptial agreements. A frequent author, she has been published by The Philadelphia Bar Reporter, The Legal Intelligencer,The Pennsylvania Family Lawyer and the Matrimonial Strategist. Swain is a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and Past Chair of the Philadelphia Bar Association Family Section. Swain was selected as one of the Ten Leaders in Matrimonial & Divorce Law Age 45 and Under in Greater Philadelphia.

Swain received her J.D. from Widener University School of Law in 1995 and her B.A. from University of Delaware in 1991.
