Julia Swain of Fox Rothschild Honored with Legal Clinic for the Disabled’s “White Hat” AwardApril 27, 2009
Julia Swain, an attorney with Fox Rothschild LLP, recently received the “White Hat Award” from the Legal Clinic for the Disabled (LCD) at the Seventh Annual LCD Spring Celebration and Silent Auction on April 16, 2009. The award was given in honor of Swain’s “dedicated volunteer work on behalf of people with disabilities.”
Swain has handled and assisted with numerous complex domestic relations cases pro bono and has mentored LCD volunteers with family law cases.
Swain concentrates her practice in the area of family law, including divorce, custody, support, equitable distribution and abuse. She negotiates settlements and prenuptial agreements and litigates family law cases in the five-county Philadelphia area, including the appellate courts.
An active member of the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Family Law Section, Swain serves as the Section’s treasurer and is a member of the Executive Committee. She will ultimately become Section chair in 2011. Swain is a frequent writer and speaker on family law issues. Her articles have been published in The Legal Intelligencer, The Pennsylvania Family Lawyer and the Philadelphia Bar Reporter. She has served as an instructor of Family Law for “The People’s Law School,” was a speaker at the Federal Court Immigration Ceremony, and was the featured speaker on the cable program “Philadelphia Legal View.”

Each year, the LCD (http://www.lcdphila.org/ ) makes legal services accessible to hundreds of people with disabilities through its key programs, including General Legal Assistance, Anti-Violence Initiative, Legal Services for the Deaf, Community Outreach and Education, Children’s Health Initiative, and Law & Health Initiative for Cancer Survivors.
