Julia Swain, a partner in the family law group at Fox Rothschild LLP, has joined the Supervision to Aid Reentry (STAR) Family Court Initiative Program, an initiative developed through the Federal Courts to help ex-offenders re-enter society.
The program, run by the Honorable Judge Timothy R. Rice and the Honorable Judge L. Felipe Restrepo, selects eligible ex-offenders to enter a year-long program in which they report semimonthly for a progress review and mentoring session. Upon successful completion of the program, participants are offered a one-year reduction of their probation sentence.
Swain is helping to develop the new Family Court Initiative within the program that will assist participants with resolving domestic relations issues such as custody and child support.She has also provided direct pro bono representation on behalf of program participants.
“The STAR program is an asset to the Philadelphia community, helping high-risk ex-offenders overcome barriers necessary to successfully re-enter society,” said Swain. “Reentry court participants have legal issues they need help resolving, and this program offers them a means to get the support they need.”
Swain litigates family law cases in the five-county Philadelphia area, including appellate courts. She also negotiates settlements and prenuptial agreements. A frequent author, she has been published by The Philadelphia Bar Reporter, The Legal Intelligencer, The Pennsylvania Family Lawyer and the Matrimonial Strategist. Swain is a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and past chair of the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Family Section. She was selected as one of the Ten Leaders in Matrimonial & Divorce Law Age 45 and Under in Greater Philadelphia.
