Kathleen Kane recently made headlines by issuing a news release regarding a legal settlement which may give the impression that she still has an active law license. This may pose as an issue due to the fact that her license was suspended by the state Supreme Court after criminal charges were filed against her.

Fox Rothschild’s Beth Weisser recently spoke in front of a Senate committee and told them that attorneys who are under suspension must stop using any communication that implies that they have the ability to practice. This also includes items such as websites and business cards, she said.

Weisser was later asked by the committee if she believed that it applied to news releases.

“Yes — any communication, publication or dissemination of information,” she relied.
