Michael G. Menkowitz was quoted in the Crain’s Detroit Business article, "Lakeshore Ch. 7 Filing Left Employees in Lurch." Full text can be found in the May 11, 2014, issue, but a synopsis is noted below.
A civil engineering firm sent separation letters to various managers, engineers and other overseas employees after the firm landed in bankruptcy court on May 2, but has sent no word about transportation home for terminated employees.
Michael Menkowitz, the attorney for the court-appointed bankruptcy trustee, said he’s received “about a thousand” calls about the engineering firm and its overseas employees over the past few days.
Menkowitz said he has been advised that as of Friday afternoon, all of the firm’s employees were off the base in Afghanistan, but it remains to be seen if the court can allocate company assets to help those employees get back to their home countries.
