Fox Rothschild LLP is pleased to announce that nine attorneys in its Minneapolis office have been selected as 2016 North Star Lawyers by The Minnesota State Bar Association.
The award honors legal professionals who, over the past year, have provided 50 hours or more of pro bono legal services.
Fox’s 2016 North Star Lawyers are:
Gina B. DeConcini, a partner in the firm’s Taxation and Wealth Planning Department, advises clients in multistate and international tax planning and controversy resolution, including sales, use, property and excise taxes; multistate and multinational income taxes; and international transaction tax planning. She also counsels nonprofit entities on tax exemption and related governance matters. In addition, she handles tax aspects of reorganizations, mergers and acquisitions for companies ranging from emerging businesses to multinational corporations.
Kathy S. Kimmel, a partner in the firm’s Litigation Department, helps clients protect and preserve their interests in business and health care disputes and trust controversies. She regularly represents owners, officers and directors in intra-company conflicts and helps businesses safeguard their trade secrets and intellectual property from improper use. She also represents clients regarding employment agreements—including noncompetes—and has both brought and defended against many motions of injunctive relief. Kimmel has tried numerous cases to decision.
Thomas R. Marek, a partner in the firm’s Corporate Department, advises public and private companies on financings, securities law compliance, mergers and acquisitions and other complex transactions, corporate governance and general contract law. He devotes a considerable portion of his practice to advising companies and boards of directors on transactions, governance and corporate compliance matters.
Mark S. Olson, a partner in the firm’s Litigation Department, represents clients in product liability and complex commercial disputes. He has handled a wide variety of mass tort and class action cases, including asbestos litigation, RSI litigation, pharmaceutical and medical device litigation and antitrust class actions. He has also served as national, regional and local counsel for domestic and international clients.
Mark P. Schneebeck, a partner in the firm’s Litigation Department, works with business clients to protect their interests when facing complex litigation matters and product liability disputes. He frequently litigates disputes among manufacturers, dealers and distributors regarding termination, nonpayment, competition, and trade secrets. He also defends banks and other financial institutions against claims brought by consumers under state and federal consumer protection laws and statutes, including consumer class action claims.
Steven A. Wellvang, a partner in the firm’s Corporate Department, has advised clients in the education and technology sectors in a wide array of business and regulatory matters for more than 20 years. He leverages this experience and perspective in his delivery of targeted and practical legal services. Steve also advises emerging and growth companies on financings, transactions, licensing, IP, governance and regulatory issues and helps boards of directors — including nonprofits — maintain compliance with fiduciary and liability requirements.
Michael D. Zalk, a partner in the firm’s Corporate Department, has more than 30 years of experience representing clients in commercial, public and corporate finance matters, including taxable and tax-exempt debt securities, real estate loans and participated credit facilities. His clients include investment banks, real estate developers, hospitals, universities, corporate trustees and private businesses.
Edward J. Hayward, counsel in the firm’s Corporate Department, has advised clients on cross-border transactions and investments, U.S. business law and litigation matters worldwide for more than 40 years. He advises foreign companies on investment in the U.S. and counsels U.S. companies doing business abroad on handling international sales, distribution and licensing agreements, the legal and tax structuring of investments and joint ventures and the U.S. regulation of outbound trade and investment.Peter D. Stiteler, an associate in the firm’s Litigation Department, advises clients in a wide range of complex business and commercial disputes. He has successfully handled civil litigation cases in state and federal court involving professional negligence claims, construction disputes, employment litigation, product liability and insurance coverage.
