N.J. Appeals Court Hears Arguments Over Whether Blogger Is Protected By Shield Laws

Shellee Hale, a blogger, is being sued by Freehold-based company Too Much Media (TMM) LLC, over comments she posted about the online pornography industry. Attorneys are questioning whether Hale should be considered a member of the media and protected by New Jersey's shield laws.

Jeffrey Pollock, who represents Hale, contended she was investigating TMM’s security breach when she was posting comments on the message board and therefore should be protected by the shield laws.

‘‘She was doing all the things someone would do to investigate, Pollock said.
