Nancy Yaffe of Fox Rothschild To Present on EFCA at PIHRA Legal UpdateJanuary 12, 2010 – In The News
Nancy Yaffe, a partner in the Los Angeles office of Fox Rothschild LLP, will present on the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) at the Professionals in Human Resources Association (PIHRA) Legal Update on January 12, 13 and 14, 2010.
Yaffe’s session will discuss the rights employees have under the National Labor Relations Act, including the right to self-organization and the right to engage in “protected concerted activity.” Her session will also explore how a company can become unionized, both currently and under the pending EFCA, and the legal steps to take to prevent it before and during the union organizing campaign.
The PIHRA Legal Update provides HR professionals, company managers and supervisors with the tools necessary to develop and implement human resource policies that are consistent with current employment laws. PIHRA is a nonprofit California corporation with more than 5,200 members representing more than 3,000 firms and serves all levels of HR practitioners as well as service providers.
Yaffe’s practice at Fox Rothschild focuses on labor and employment law counseling and litigation with a focus on problem prevention. With a client list that includes prominent southern California hotels, manufacturing and service providing companies, Yaffe also defends all types of businesses against employee claims and lawsuits involving discrimination, harassment, retaliation and wage-and-hour violations.
Experienced in employment-related issues, Yaffe provides pre-litigation counseling and advice on harassment, discrimination, ADA/disability compliance and union avoidance. She has conducted training presentations on sexual harassment prevention, leave of absence compliance, wage-and-hour issues, retaliation and frequently speaks for various Human Resources associations.
Yaffe also reviews policies and handbooks for clients to ensure legal compliance and conducts preventive audits and investigations into alleged workplace misconduct and pay practices.
A member of the American Bar Association, Labor and Employment Law Section, and program chair of PIHRA District 5, Yaffe also volunteers for the Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles Sojourn Domestic Violence Legal Clinic.
Yaffe earned her J.D. from the University of Southern California Gould School of Law in 1995, where she also received her graduate certificate in the Study of Women and Men in Society. She received her B.A. from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1987 graduating magna cum laude.
