New Jersey Regulator Defends Chief’s Role In Tropicana MeltdownJanuary 11, 2010 – In The News
The New Jersey Casino Control Commission is refuting allegations that its chair, Linda Kassekert, acted improperly when she took over the key auditing role at the Tropicana. The audit was in response after state regulators revoked the Tropicana’s license in 2007.
Nicholas Casiello, chair of the firm’s Gaming Practice Group, sees nothing untoward in the actions of Kassekert and the commission.
“The purpose of an independent audit committee is to ensure that someone other than management is dealing with regulatory issues in a very objective fashion,” Casiello said.
“Here you have the Casino Control Commission itself running this casino. Who is going to be more sensitive about regulatory issues than the Casino Control Commission?”
