Nice Doesn’t Count in CourtMarch 10, 2008
David Rasner was quoted in “Nice Doesn’t Count in Court,” which appeared on divorce360.com. The article discusses the shock many people feel when discovering that courts don’t care who was “naughty or nice” when going through a divorce. Many clients get frustrated by this attitude, since they expect emotions to play a part in court.
Said Rasner, “Judges are judges. They are not psychologists; not priests or rabbis. They are there to be decent people who follow the law, and sometimes the law and emotions are divergent….The judge isn’t going to insert himself or herself into the marriage. You don’t know what goes on behind closed doors. Just accept the fact the marriage is over and now we have to find out what is equitable to both parties.”
