Peter J. Butch III, Intellectual Property Attorney, Joins Fox Rothschild’s Princeton Office

Princeton, NJ – Fox Rothschild LLP has announced that Peter J. Butch III has joined the firm’s Intellectual Property Practice as a partner, resident in the Princeton, New Jersey office.

Norton, chair of Fox’s Intellectual Property Practice and co-chair of the Pharmaceutical & Biotechnology Practice. "His extensive patent work, and his experience with complex pharmaceutical matters compliment the work we’re currently doing, and will help us grow our client base. Prior to joining Fox, Butch was a partner at Synnestvedt & Lechner LLP, where he had been a part of that firm’s intellectual property group since 1998. He focuses his practice in all fields of intellectual property law, with particular emphasis in procuring domestic and international patents on developments involving complex organic and inorganic chemistry, including pharmaceutical and biotechnology developments. He also has experience in preparing infringement and validity opinions, and negotiating and drafting license agreements. Butch has prepared and prosecuted a number of patent applications on developments relating to pharmaceuticals, semiconductor fabrication, bioinformatics, 3-D nerve tissue MRI methods, biodegradable glycol ether dry-cleaning products, biocompatible polymers, non-linear optical materials, and surgical lighting, among others.

Before entering the law field, Butch was a chemist in the development of thermoplastic adhesives for the National Starch and Chemical Corporation in Bridgewater, NJ. He invented the first commercialized refastenable disposable diaper adhesive and the first commercialized adhesive for labeling plastic milk containers.

Butch is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh (B.S. 1977) and the Seattle University School of Law (J.D. 1984). He is admitted to practice in New Jersey and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
