The president and CEO of West Penn Allegheny Health System recently announced the consolidation of The Western Pennsylvania and Allegheny General hospitals. This could result in as many as 1,500 employees losing their jobs.

Edward Kabala, however, said heavy lifting may be ahead when doctors will have to be moved or furloughed because of the downsizing. Kabala said a real problem could be whether or not doctors have a place to practice, and estimated more than 100 contracted doctors could be affected.
