SEC Lawyer Keeps Eye On Stockton

The city of Stockton’s recent bankruptcy has caught the eye of an attorney from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The SEC bankruptcy attorney told the Stockton Record that it is common practice for the SEC to monitor corporate bankruptcies.

Michael A. Sweet, a partner and member of the firm’s Financial Restructuring and Bankruptcy department in San Francisco, spoke to the Stockton Record about the SEC’s involvement.

"It's no surprise the SEC will want a ringside seat in the event things heat up between CalPERS and bond holders," Sweet said.
