Social Media Privacy Law Takes Effect SundayNovember 27, 2013 – In The News
Beginning Sunday December 1, 2013, New Jersey will become the eighth state to ban employers from requiring job applicants to disclose their social media user name or password, with hefty fines for employers violating the new law. WBGO turned to veteran privacy attorney Scott Vernick for his take.
Vernick says the law could also help employers avoid sticky situations. “They now know sort of what the rules of the game are, and they’re less likely to be faced with some charge or some complaint that they invaded somebody’s privacy,” he said.
