The impact of the New York City law mandating paid sick time at every company with at least five workers has been extremely modest compared the previous predictions of business advocacy groups.

It is nearly impossible to tell how many companies have stayed on the right side of this law by adding HR staff and man-hours or cutting expenses and compensation in other ways.Glenn Grindlinger explains that, “regardless of whether only one employers has had to pay money, or 10,000 employers had to pay money, there’s still a cost employers are incurring of complying with the law, and that cost is not captured by the city’s data, or at least the data they’ve released.
